Virtual Worlds
by Greg Cruey on March 13, 2009
A number of sources (paidContent.org, the Inquisitr, the Metaverse Journal, Second Life: the Music...) are covering the recent decision by Linden Lab to crack down on adult content.
It may be summed up best by paidContent.org: Linden Labs is going to create a virtual red light district, moving sex-oriented businesses and activities off the main continent.
"Essentially, Linden Lab have decreed that any adults-only content on the mainland of Second Life will eventually be relocated to a new continent," according to Metaverse. By some reports as much as 30% of Second Life's economy is based on adult content. But there is also a "diminishing returns" affect where many corporate sponsors refuse to become involved in Second Life precisely because the sex scene is so obvious.
Time will tell how well Linden Lab carries through on this...

I don't know about sexual-related economy, but talking about sex content, the SL official blog reports that it's around 5% of the whole SL content.
