Although Google doesn't own us (yet), it is pretty clear they know everything there is to know about you. So we could say that Google owns your identity. As documented in this fine article, Google has access (in theory) to most of the personal information there is to know about you. Google doesn't just host your email(Gmail), Google also knows what you are looking for(Search History), what you blog about and what your inner thoughts are (Gtalk). In short, they have everything the government wants to know, which puts Google in an interesting position : Will governments discover these possibilities and try to force Google to give them access to it ? Or will Google simply offer the information for sale to governments ?
Sure, I like to know that my personal data is secure… But have you ever actually compiled a detailed list of your personal information that Google does know? Here are 16 things Google knows about me and how they acquired the info.
I personally doubt the info isn't safe, at least for now….
