If you have a blog you're not particularly interested in monetizing and that you're not really worried about having a big readership, you can get away with something like my personal blog. But if you want to attract readers and make money, Daily Blog Tips rightly points out that there are some essential ingredients your blog must contain.
The post by Daniel Scocco discusses general characteristics a good blog must have and then adds five layout and usability issues the blog must embrace to be successful. You have to have valuable and unique content, consistency and perseverance, and a community of readers built up around it (that's probably the hardest part). It also needs to have a clean layout and be well branded to compete in a blogosphere where a gagillion people a day publish something.
It's a good piece. If you're a blogger and you're at all interested in succeeding as a blogger, you should read it...
