Disaster Plan and Backups

I've heard it said that real men don't backup. Well, I'm here to tell you, it ain't so…

Do you have a disaster recovery plan? Michael Gray talked recently about how he uses cloud computing as part of his backup plan. A disaster recovery plan, according to Gray, is

…basically an offsite hardware/software backup that allows you to store all of your documents, programs, applications, databases or information that you can bring online and have access to with a minimum of fuss and as quickly as possible. Onsite backup are quicker, easier and cheaper to put into place, but offsite backups give you an added level of protection should something make your primary location non functional.

Like a fire, Gray says. If your computer is destroyed in a house fire, the external backup drive you've been using (and probably had sitting right next to your computer) probably got destroyed, too.

Gray has a long list of ideas that could minimize the impact of having your computer stolen or destroyed. You can read his piece here.

What if this was YOUR laptop...?
