While Zoho went for Single Sign-On for their applications, went in a slightly different direction and merged writely and Google Spreadsheet. The two applications can be found under docs.google.com, and writely.com point there as well.

Google is moving fast again; just days after the aquisition of Youtube, this their latest move. Google has recently stated they would stop releasing so much and focus on integrating different apps. Docs.google.com is one of the first examples of this new strategy. According to , the ability to put a spreadsheet into a text document will be included soon; but Zoho is one step ahead and already offers this feature, which could be muchas importante for your average office bobo. At the time of editing this article, the docs.google.com site was somewhat slow, but that's probably due to press coverage which causes loads of people to try it out for themselves.
This latest move shows that webbased applications are growing up and turning into true replacements of office suites. Zoho has a big eyecather on it's blog, it looks like a new release of Zoho's Virtual Office is coming. The future of office apps looks brilliant !

Nice post, Servaas! The eye-catcher blog post is about Zoho Virtual Office which got covered in TechCrunch just prior to the Google Docs post.
Thanks. Yes, I’ve read the post on Techcrunch. Nice going at Zoho !
I am also waiting for OS.. I am sicken of buying the old content inside swanky cover both for OS and Office
These free applications, and the growing open source movement certainly is going to put some pressure on microsft and the other big software developers. It’s good to see.
Google is it seems is quite serious about world domination.
I found the idea of Google Desktop applications quite interesting, I wonder all this open source stuff will ever really replace traditional desktop software? It will certainly cause Microsoft to put more effort into it’s latest iterations to justify its high price tag.
I also did an article about this a while ago here: http://adammoss.blogspot.com/2007/06/desk-toppled.html
Perhaps other companies will be forced to go open source in the future?
