Google aquires Grandcentral : One number for all
Filed in archive Newsdesk 2.0 on July 3, 2007
Recently I heard a rumor saying that Google was talking to Grandcentral, a company in the telecommunications market. Today I can tell you it is true, as Google announced it : Grandcentral has been aquired. We're pleased to announce that we have acquired GrandCentral Communications, a company that provides services for managing your voice communications. GrandCentral is an innovative service that lets users integrate all of their existing phone numbers and voice mailboxes into one account, which can be accessed from the web.(Official Google Blog)
This is possibly the biggest step ahead any company has made in the telecommunication market (ah, well, yes, don't forget about apple and it's iPhone). This could lead to interesting results as whispered before : A googlephone wit a Googlephonenumber, a number that points to your gtalk account and more.
Readwriteweb thinks this could have quite some impact on Skype, especially SkypeIn users.
