Goolge Knol (Now in Four Languages)
Filed in archive Web 2.0 on October 31, 2008
TechCrunch reported yesterday that Google Knol is going multilingual.
While English is the obvious first langauge of Knol at the moment, the Wikipedia-like user built knowledge site now has French, German and Italian versions.
Knol is about four months old now. One cynic calls it a monetized version of Wikipedia. While Knol is one of several new sites that has tried ot implement Wikipedia's concept of crowdsourcing, it has editorial difference with Wikipedia. Wikipedia tries to create a single entry on a particular topic. Knol allows competing entries on the same topic.
Knol also recently installed a text-to-speech component that will read an entry to users.
Knol is the first of the new crowdsourced encyclopedias to go multilingual.

I think knol has the potential to go big and its backed by google. Different languages gives it a wider reach, wikipedia is a good competition though
