#$%^&ing Trojan

I really don't know what I did or how I did it, but I woke up one morning recently with a virus. My Norton AntiVirus 2009 said it was the Trojan.FakeAValert. The risk was low. Yada yada yada…

I fixed it, I thought. My Norton told me I'd fixed it. I still have problems. While my virus was (supposedly) gone, it had made changes to my PC – changes that blocked my access to a number of sites that dealt with virus removal, including (of course) Symantec. So I could no longer update my virus file. I spent a couple of days looking for a solution to this, chasing my tail.

This morning I turned the my PC on and Norton told me I had two FakeAValert trojans on my computer. I didn't have time to fix it, so I turned it off and went to work. Tonight it told me that I also had the Vundo trojan. And eventually, in the process of trying to fix it, I restarted my PC and got a welcome screen with a account name to click and, when I click it it takes me back to that same welcome page after crunching and grinding for a minute. So now I can't get into Windows at all…

I guess I'll use my laptop for a little while. And I'll unplug the PC and drag it to a technician somewhere…

First get Malwarebytes Anti Malware which is a freaking awesome program. It should be able to fix that Fake Virus thing if it is the same thing that I got hit with on one of my laptops.

Two ditch that memory hog of Nortons and get Avast which is free and works a lot better.

  3. Had to delete my HDD, because I couldn’t delete the worm.
