Is Web 2.0 Going Away?
Filed in archive Web 2.0 by Greg Cruey on February 26, 2009
Robin Wauters over at TechCrunch suggested earlier this month at Web 2.0 might be dying.
"Web 2.0″ seems to become more and more a void (and an avoided) term. Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is definitely apparent.
So, a refresher...

What is Web 2.0? According to Wikipedia, "The term Web 2.0 describes the changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aim to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web." Well, we still have lots of those things.

Robin looks for stats on the term. She seems to be right when she says that a.) the term doesn't get used as much as it used to and b.) it isn't being replaced by the term Web 3.0.

The question is, what's in a name? The idea of Web 2.0 dates back to 2004. So it's five years old - which is an era in technology years. It's a very different Internet now than it was five years ago. Creativity, collaboration and functionality are required components of any web site now.

Perhaps the term is at the end of its usefulness. But certainly the idea of a creative, interactive web is alive and well.
