Microsoft releases Silverlight with Linux support
Filed in archive Newsdesk 2.0 on September 7, 2007

Microsoft is working very hard to keep up with the important players on the Web 2.0 market. Now that the company has released their Office Live products, it focuses on development. In an attempt compete with Adobe's Flash, Microsoft has created Silverlight.
At first sight, I wonder why the company has chosen to put a background on Silverlight's website that closely resembles the wellknown desktop wallpaper that is default on Macs. Besides that I can only wonder about the success of Silverlight. Flash has been around, and Adobe certainly has. I really don't know if there is a market for another product. But I guess we should give Microsoft an equal chance.
Positive news is support for Linux. Where some time ago there were some rumors about Microsoft not wanting to put any effort in Linux support, they have announced to be working together with their new friend amongst enemies, Novell to ensure support. The support is realised in a project called Moonlight, which is based on the Mono Project which already existed for this purpose.
