Mozilla's Prism will change the Web
Filed in archive Newsdesk 2.0 on October 29, 2007
We have seen a big move from locally installed applications towards webbased (online) applications, and we have witnessed how these online applications grew into adult applications that work as expected, offer all necessary features and are quick. And now it is time to release them into the Wild World of computing : no more browser.
Mozilla has had a project for some time called Webrunner, which has now been renamed to Prism. So what does it do ?
Simple. It provides a layer between the desktop and the internet, allowing the online apps to run as they were local apps. It is one of the best things I have ever seen, and prism, if it will ever be released to other hardware platforms than computers, will be huge as a application providing interface. Wouldn't it be sweet on your smartphone ?

Unfortunately, prism is currently only available for Windows, which means I cannot test it properly (I use only Mac). I do hope it will see the light on Mac soon though.
Prism is here.
