Netscape to kill Digg ?
Netscape, owned by AOL, has launched a portal that seems to be a lot like Digg. Although the portal is currently still in beta, it seems likely that this portal will replace Netscape's current portal. The most important difference with Digg is that published stories are selected by a dedicated team :
Our dedicated team of Anchors will choose interesting and important stories from those that are submitted to Netscape.com
Just as Digg, the site than offers the possibility to vote for stories and write a description. I think this is a nice initiative from a big site like Netscape, but at the same time I have mixedlinks feelings about it. I believe all newssites will go this way or disappear at a certain moment. Besides that, A site like this should not select (and decide) what stories will be prominently placed, all placement of published stories should be through votes.
