Objectivity 2.0

Filed in archive Web 2.0 on January 10, 2007

Techcrunch's Michael Arrington is a busy man. Techcrunch has grown into a serious site with a very stable reputation. Some would argue Techcrunch has authority in it's field. And that's true. As well as dangerous.
We continue to review 20+ startups every day, most of which come in through the company submissions link at the top of TechCrunch. Some of our best content comes from those submissions, but we've also missed quite a few good companies because we have to make a write/no write decision very quickly.()

If it's your job to judge startups, you're likely to become subjective, leading potential users (customers) away from good products and so on.

Apparently fresh startups already know that if techcrunch thinks the product is crap, it automatically is. This counts for every field where professionals are taken as authority. It is therefore very important to stay objective. If you don't feel as good as usual one day, you might judge less positive than you should have, possibly putting a fresh startup out of business.
I am just a small editor of a small site, but I still try and maintain objectivity, although you might know me for certain favorite brands or products (apple :P).
I therefore try to uphold Objectivity 2.0
