Last week I needed to share a pretty big archive with someone. The archive was too big for e-mail. I suppose I could have uploaded it to a storage provider, but the person who needed to receive the archive isn't someone who spends all of his time online. So I had to find a way to do it as easy as possible, for me as well as the receiver. So what did I do ? I checked out some providers for filesharing. The results were terrible. First of all, I needed and wanted a quick solution. Most of the providers found ask for registration. That was my first demand : no registration. I hate having to keep a password somewhere, especially for a service I will not use often. The few that were leftover quickly helped themselves out of my way by not being connectable, taking way too long for the upload to get there or being incompatible with Safari (!!). The one leftover was Sharebigfile.com.
Yes, the site looks like crap, but this one actually works, and very well too. A winner as far as I'm concerned. The free package called 'guest' allows you to upload files of max 300 mb using the form. The uploads are deleted after 21 days. The package called 'registered' allows uploads up to 500 mb, 3 simultaneous uploads and flash access. Some competitors allow 1 GB for a month, but I found them to be slow…..
