Monkey On Your Back is a brilliant webbased app I just discovered this morning. Where most apps require the other party to have an account, this one simply uses email. The interface is fabulous, you enter the receiver's emailadress, what it is they have to do and choose a date. That's it ! It is sent to the receiver in a nice, clean email with a line saying "kill this monkey" for when the assigend task is completed.
The site offers a nice interface to edit your monkeys (you sent out), but also received monkeys (when both parties have an account).
Whether you need to remind your roommate to pay their share of the rent or you want to remind your colleague that the office party is on Friday, Monkey on Your Back lets you create custom reminders and send them to people on the date of your choice.(Appscout)

Another in this category is Remember The Milk, which is very innovative but offers many options, so it operates in a slightly different market. I wrote about Remember The Milk back in March here.
