RIP Netscape.com

Netscape must be the one site that everybody forgot about when the web went from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0. The company, owned by AOL tried to wake us up by releasing a digg clone to the general public to replace their news indexing site.
When it was initially introduced, Netscape drew a lot of criticism for the site's similarities to Digg and for trying to bribe its top users to switch over to Netscape.(The blog post announcing the closing of the current netscape.com site tries to convince people Netscape is not dead by referring to it's new portal.
Absolutely nothing will change. The only area that will be affected is Netscape.com. Anything else associated with the Netscape brand will remain the same.(Netscape blog)What can I say ? AOL doesn't have a strong presence in Europe, and netscape is only known for the browser they made when it was still the biggest.
