The Zen of Website Optimization

Website Optimization has been made to seem like such as tedious, technical issue. But it doesn't have to be. Like most things in life, if you work at it for a while it becomes habit, a second nature.
Most people who have a basic pop culture knowledge of Zen ideas think of Zen is about releasing yourself into the forces of the spiritual realm, or something like that. And they see a little Zen in places like Star Wars, with a "dark side." Interesting, SEO has been divided up by many people into the black hat SEOs and the white hat SEOs. I don't know that good and evil are appropriate metaphors, but they represent diametrically opposed philosophies of SEO. It's a question of natural versus artifical link building, a question of how much spam you're willing to utilize in order to build your traffic stream.
I'm not much of a black hat. I look for natural links and organic traffic growth. SEO is not about forcing things to happen, it's about a disciplined approach to building natural quality into your site.
And if you've read Robert M. Pirsig's book (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) you know that quality can't be defined...
