Walmart's TheHub : Deceased.
Filed in archive Newsdesk 2.0 on October 4, 2006
WalMart made an attempt to setup a Social Network, meant for schoolgoing kids, called TheHub. The point was obiously to get Walmart's younger customers to spend even more - so it was to be a shopping site in disguise. No worries though - it's dead. Walmart has closed the site down, although reasons are unknown. And this leads me to my point : There are so many startups that do the same as several others, I often wonder if there's life for them.
I was looking for a suitable solution for a friend of mine who is a freelance artist/designer and wants to setup a website for himself. As I see hundreds of websites each month, I went to look in my archives for a nice web2 site where he could host his stuff. My conclusion ? I have found several that are pretty impressive, but for how long will they survive ? In other words, should we introduce a TTL(TimeToLive) for websites ?
