As webbased applications are growing up, a lot of functionality is added on the way. The biggest revolution took place when the webbased document and spreadsheet programs were released in the wild - finally you can live without office suites as you can register one online that is always there.

The latest in the developments is a funny one. As we try to live our lives online, applications are now going offline. Google invented a toolset called Gears, which makes this possible, and it was first released on Google's rss reader, which offers you functionality to cache it's contents to your browser for offline reading and processing. And this technology is coming to your office suite, too. Zoho is the first in line.
The offline functionality was built on Google Gears, an open source project launched by Google in May 2007. Users will need to install a browser plugin to take advantage of the functionality. After that, an option will appear in the navigation bar to "Go Offline."()

I am very excited about this development and I can only hope others will follow soon, as sometimes you simply don't have access to broadband for a couple of hours, but this functionality will enable you to sync your stuff and have the latest developments on your laptop or computer.
